“Kinan” … the hero of anxiety and ambition
The events revolve around the character “Kinan,” a journalist and writer who possesses a keen sensitivity to details, yet lives under the weight of phobia and anxiety, which become constant companions on his journey.
The narrative shifts between multiple spaces, from the old city neighborhoods filled with secrets to the world of finance and business, where empires are formed and values are tested.
From isolation to wealth
The novel presents a striking proposition about the human ability to transform weakness into strength, as the writer observes how isolation and introversion can become gateways to building influence and wealth.
“Submission” follows Kinan’s journey from his childhood in the village, through his psychological struggles in the city, to his marriage to a wealthy woman who employs his abilities to protect her interests, only to abandon him when he is no longer needed, in a paradox that reveals the fragility of relationships based on self-interest.

The novel delves into contemporary social issues, including the concept of “masculinity” and the transformations of marital relationships, through a critical lens that highlights a society that venerates strength and wealth while marginalizing human weakness.
The character of the wife emerges as a pragmatic model, using Kinan as a “scarecrow” to protect her ambitions before abandoning him, reflecting the shifts in values in a rapidly changing era.

The work is characterized by a narrative language that blends simplicity with deep analysis, with a clear reliance on precise details in building the scene, whether in describing popular environments or in dissecting fragile human moments.

Abdullah Zayed is considered one of the novelists who combines journalistic experience, cultural work, and creative writing, drawing on an academic background in sociology from King Abdulaziz University, which adds a clear analytical dimension to his works.
His name emerged through his novel “The Outcast,” which has seen several editions and has been translated into Spanish, alongside other works such as “I Wish I Were a Woman,” and story and thought collections that reflect his interest in issues of identity and social transformations.
