انطلق رواد الفضاء في مهمة «أرتيميس 2» التابعة لوكالة ناسا أمس (الأربعاء)، في رحلة تجريبية تستغرق عشرة أيام نحو مدار القمر، تمهيدًا للعودة إلى سطحه عام 2028.

وقال رئيس وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية جاريد آيزكمان، في مؤتمر صحفي عقب الإطلاق: «بعد توقّف قصير دام 54 عامًا، تستأنف ناسا مهمتها لإرسال رواد فضاء إلى القمر».

وانطلق الصاروخ «سبايس لانش سيستم» في الموعد المحدد عند الساعة 18:35 (22:35 بتوقيت غرينتش) من مركز كينيدي للفضاء في فلوريدا.

وكان على متن المركبة أربعة من روّاد الفضاء، حيث انطلقوا من منصة الإطلاق الشهيرة نفسها التي استخدمها روّاد فضاء مهمة «أبولو» في أول عودة إلى القمر منذ انتهاء مهمات أبولو عام 1972.

وانفصلت الكبسولة أورايون وفق الخطة الموضوعة أساسًا بعد ثماني دقائق من إطلاق الطبقة الأولى التي دفعتها إلى الفضاء، ثم دخلت مدار الأرض. وستدور الكبسولة حول الأرض مرات عدة بسرعة تقارب 27 ألف كيلومتر في الساعة، مع زيادة ارتفاعها تدريجيًا، للتأكد من سلامة عمل الأنظمة.

The astronauts embarked on the “Artemis 2” mission from NASA yesterday (Wednesday), on a ten-day test flight towards lunar orbit, paving the way for a return to its surface in 2028.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said at a press conference following the launch: “After a brief hiatus of 54 years, NASA is resuming its mission to send astronauts to the moon.”

The “Space Launch System” rocket lifted off on schedule at 18:35 (22:35 GMT) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Onboard the spacecraft were four astronauts, who launched from the same iconic launch pad used by the Apollo astronauts during the first return to the moon since the end of the Apollo missions in 1972.

The Orion capsule separated as planned after eight minutes of the first stage launch that propelled it into space, then entered Earth orbit. The capsule will orbit the Earth several times at a speed of nearly 27,000 kilometers per hour, gradually increasing its altitude to ensure the systems are functioning safely.
