للمرة الثانية، استدعت وزارة الخارجية الكويتية، القائم بأعمال سفارة العراق لدى الكويت، لتسليمه مذكرة احتجاج على استمرار الاعتداءات التي تشنها فصائل مسلحة عراقية ضد الأراضي الكويتية.

وأكد نائب وزير الخارجية بالوكالة، زيد عباس شنشول، أن شن هجمات مسلحة على دولة الكويت باستخدام أراضي جمهورية العراق يُعد عدواناً على الكويت واعتداءً على سيادتها، إضافة إلى كونه انتهاكاً لقواعد القانون الدولي وميثاق الأمم المتحدة، مؤكداً رفض الكويت القاطع لهذه الاعتداءات الخطيرة.

وطالب شنشول الحكومة العراقية باتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة كافة ضد المعتدين، بهدف ردعهم عن هذه الممارسات، كما جددت الخارجية الكويتية التأكيد على حق دولة الكويت الكامل والأصيل في الدفاع عن نفسها بموجب المادة 51 من ميثاق الأمم المتحدة.

وأشارت الوزارة إلى إمكانية اتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة والمشروعة كافة للتصدي لهذه الاعتداءات التي تهدد أمنها وسيادتها وسلامة أراضيها، مبينة أن الكويت مستمرة في متابعة الموقف عن كثب، مع التشديد على ضرورة احترام سيادة الدولة والحفاظ على أمنها الوطني، وأنها ستواصل اتخاذ جميع الخطوات الدبلوماسية والقانونية لمواجهة أي تهديد.

من جهة أخرى، أصدر وزير الداخلية العراقي عبدالأمير الشمري، أمراً بفتح تحقيق موسع بحق عدد من القيادات الأمنية ضمن قاطع المسؤولية في منطقة المدائن، على خلفية الخرق الأمني الذي شهده القاطع ليلة (الأحد).

وذكر بيان وزارة الداخلية العراقية أن توجيه الوزير يعفي مدير قسم شرطة المدائن، ومدير قسم الاستخبارات، وآمر الفوج الثاني باللواء الرابع – شرطة اتحادية من مناصبهم فوراً، وإيداعهم التوقيف على ذمة التحقيق، لتقصيرهم في أداء الواجبات الأمنية الموكلة إليهم، كما وجه بتشكيل لجنة تحقيق للوقوف على ملابسات حادثة إطلاق 4 صواريخ باتجاه مطار بغداد الدولي، التي انطلقت من ضمن قاطع مسؤوليتهم، وتحديد الثغرات التي أدت لهذا الاستهداف.

وأكد الوزير أن «المؤسسة الأمنية لن تتهاون مع أي حالة تقصير أو تهاون في حماية الأهداف الحيوية وسلطة القانون»، موضحاً أن «المحاسبة ستطال كل من يثبت تقصيره في ضبط أمن القواطع التي تقع ضمن مسؤوليته».

For the second time, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Kuwait to deliver a note of protest regarding the ongoing attacks carried out by Iraqi armed factions against Kuwaiti territory.

The Acting Deputy Foreign Minister, Zaid Abbas Shanshul, confirmed that launching armed attacks on the State of Kuwait using the territory of the Republic of Iraq is considered aggression against Kuwait and an infringement on its sovereignty, in addition to being a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, emphasizing Kuwait’s firm rejection of these serious assaults.

Shanshul called on the Iraqi government to take all necessary measures against the aggressors to deter them from these practices, while the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry reiterated its full and inherent right to defend itself under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The ministry indicated the possibility of taking all necessary and legitimate measures to confront these attacks that threaten its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stating that Kuwait continues to closely monitor the situation, emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty of the state and maintain its national security, and that it will continue to take all diplomatic and legal steps to address any threat.

On another note, Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari issued an order to open an extensive investigation into several security leaders within the area of responsibility in the Al-Mada’in region, following the security breach that occurred in the area on the night of (Sunday).

The Iraqi Interior Ministry’s statement mentioned that the minister’s directive immediately relieves the Director of the Al-Mada’in Police Department, the Director of Intelligence, and the Commander of the Second Battalion of the Fourth Brigade – Federal Police from their positions, and places them in custody pending investigation for their failure to perform their assigned security duties. He also directed the formation of an investigative committee to look into the circumstances of the incident involving the launch of 4 rockets towards Baghdad International Airport, which originated from within their area of responsibility, and to identify the gaps that led to this targeting.

The minister affirmed that “the security institution will not tolerate any case of negligence or laxity in protecting vital targets and the rule of law,” clarifying that “accountability will extend to anyone found negligent in maintaining the security of the sectors under their responsibility.”
