نفى أسطورة نادي ليفربول الإنجليزي ومدرب ريال مدريد السابق جون توشاك، مزاعم ابنه كاميرون بشأن إصابته بمرض الخرف.

وكان كاميرون قد صرّح لصحيفة «ديلي ميل» البريطانية بأن والده، البالغ من العمر 77 عاماً، شُخِّص بمرض الخرف، مشيراً إلى أن المرض يؤثر على الذاكرة قصيرة المدى، لكنه لا يزال قادراً على استرجاع تشكيلات كاملة من المباريات التي خاضها أو أشرف عليها قبل عقود.

رد قاطع من توشاك وزوجته

لكن توشاك وزوجته نفيا هذه الادعاءات، مؤكدين أنهما لم يتواصلا مع كاميرون كثيراً خلال العامين الماضيين، حيث قال أسطورة الريدز في تصريحات نقلتها صحيفة «موندو ديبورتيفو»: «هل أنا مصاب بالخرف؟ ليس بعد»، معترفاً في الوقت نفسه بأن ذاكرته قصيرة المدى قد تأثرت بعد معركته مع فايروس كورونا.

وأضاف ساخراً: «لقد نسيت جميع الأهداف التي أهدرتها، لكنني أتذكر تماماً الأهداف التي سجلتها».

من جانبها، قالت زوجته ماي: «جون هادئ جداً هنا، لقد احتفلنا بعيد ميلاده الـ77 يوم الأحد، وكان سعيداً جداً».

The legend of English club Liverpool and former Real Madrid coach John Toshack has denied his son Cameron’s claims about him suffering from dementia.

Cameron had stated to the British newspaper “Daily Mail” that his 77-year-old father was diagnosed with dementia, indicating that the illness affects short-term memory, but he is still able to recall complete lineups from matches he played in or managed decades ago.

Decisive response from Toshack and his wife

However, Toshack and his wife denied these allegations, confirming that they have not been in touch with Cameron much over the past two years. The Reds legend stated in comments reported by the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”: “Am I suffering from dementia? Not yet,” while admitting that his short-term memory has been affected after his battle with the coronavirus.

He added jokingly: “I have forgotten all the goals I missed, but I remember perfectly the goals I scored.”

For her part, his wife Mai said: “John is very calm here; we celebrated his 77th birthday on Sunday, and he was very happy.”
