لا أعتقد أن هناك شعوباً تستخدم منصات التواصل الاجتماعي بالطريقة التي تستخدمها الشعوب العربية. الطريقة العربية في استخدام هذه الوسائل ظاهرة لافتة تستدعي دراستها من قبل المتخصصين في الإعلام وعلم الاجتماع وعلم النفس. وحتى لا نقع في خطأ التعميم، الذي نطالب دائماً بتجنّبه في أي أمر أو توصيف، فإننا نعني فئات من هذه الشعوب حوّلت هذه المنصات إلى ساحات للاتهامات والتجنيات والتصفيات العبثية عند وقوع أي حدث أو حدوث أي قضية حتى لو كانت فردية أو محصورة في نطاق ضيق جداً. وأما في الأحداث الأكبر فإننا نشاهد اختلاط الحابل بالنابل، وضياع صوت العقل، وفتح جبهات ساخنة للقصف الكلامي المتبادل دون ضوابط، وبتعميم غير منطقي على الشعوب، واستحضار خلافات وأزمات قديمة وإسقاطها على الحاضر، لتنشأ حالة شديدة من الاحتقان ليست في صالح أي طرف.

هذه العشوائية ضارة جداً بالشعوب، خصوصاً في الأوقات غير العادية كالتي نمرُّ بها الآن، والتي تتطلب قدراً كبيراً من الانضباط والمسؤولية، وتجنُّب الاستفزاز وخلط الأوراق، وأكرر أنها تتطلب -بشكل خاص- عدم التعميم ووصم شعوب بأكملها نتيجة تجاوزات لأشخاص بعينهم، أو فئة توظف الأزمات لتصفية حسابات خاصة تتعلق بها، سياسية أو أيديولوجية، أو كيفما كانت، خصوصاً عندما تكون معروفة سابقاً.

لا يُلام أي مواطن أبداً حين يهبُّ للدفاع عن وطنه أو مجتمعه عندما يتعرض لإساءة صريحة من أي شخص، ولكن عليه ألا ينزلق في منحدر الإسفاف في اللغة حتى لو استخدمها الطرف الآخر كوسيلة للاستفزاز. ومن حق أي مواطن أن يردَّ على أي مغالطة ويصحح أي معلومة كاذبة تتعلق بأي شأن من شؤون وطنه، ولكن دون التوسع بالخوض في مواضيع أخرى خارجة عن نطاق موضوع النقاش. وأما فيما يتعلق بالمواقف السياسية للدول تجاه أي قضية فإنها مسألة بالغة الحساسية، فمن ناحية يجب فهم هذه المواقف من المصادر الرسمية فقط، وعدم التسرع بأخذها من أي مصادر أخرى لا سيما أن كثيراً من المصادر في هذا الوقت تفتقد المصداقية والموثوقية. ومن حق أي شخص أن يعلّق على هذه المواقف الرسمية إذا كان له رأي حيالها، ولكن يجب أن يكون الرأي موضوعياً وبلُغة تراعي ضوابط مخاطبة أجهزة رسمية تمثل دولتها.

نحن الآن كدول عربية وليست خليجية فقط في ظل تسارع الأوضاع في منتهى الخطورة، أزمة كبرى ليس من الحصافة أن يعتقد الذين ليسوا في مركزها أنهم بمنجاة من نتائجها القريبة والبعيدة المدى، والعالم يراقب العقل العربي الجمعي كيف يتعامل معها، لذلك يجب أن نرتفع بخطابنا ونقاشاتنا في الإعلام ووسائل التواصل عن المهاترات وبذر الضغائن والانشغال بزوابع صغيرة مفتعلة بدلاً من التركيز على الإعصار الكبير الذي نواجهه.

I do not believe that there are peoples who use social media platforms in the same way that Arab peoples do. The Arab way of using these means is a striking phenomenon that calls for study by specialists in media, sociology, and psychology. To avoid the mistake of generalization, which we always urge to avoid in any matter or description, we mean certain segments of these peoples who have turned these platforms into arenas for accusations, fabrications, and senseless eliminations whenever any event occurs or any issue arises, even if it is individual or confined to a very narrow scope. As for larger events, we see a mix of the relevant and the irrelevant, the loss of rational voices, and the opening of heated fronts for mutual verbal bombardment without controls, with an illogical generalization about peoples, and the evocation of old disputes and crises and imposing them on the present, creating a severe state of tension that is not in favor of any party.

This randomness is very harmful to peoples, especially in extraordinary times like those we are currently experiencing, which require a great deal of discipline and responsibility, avoiding provocation and mixing issues. I reiterate that it specifically requires not generalizing and stigmatizing entire peoples due to the transgressions of specific individuals or a group that exploits crises to settle personal accounts, whether political, ideological, or otherwise, especially when these are previously known.

No citizen should ever be blamed when they rush to defend their homeland or community when it is subjected to explicit insult from anyone, but they should not slip into the abyss of vulgarity in language, even if the other party uses it as a means of provocation. Every citizen has the right to respond to any fallacy and correct any false information related to any matter concerning their homeland, but without expanding the discussion into other topics outside the scope of the discussion at hand. As for the political positions of countries regarding any issue, this is a highly sensitive matter; on one hand, these positions should be understood only from official sources, and one should not hastily take them from any other sources, especially since many sources at this time lack credibility and reliability. Everyone has the right to comment on these official positions if they have an opinion about them, but the opinion should be objective and expressed in a manner that respects the protocols of addressing official bodies representing their state.

We, as Arab countries—not just Gulf countries—are now in the midst of extremely dangerous accelerating situations, a major crisis where it is unwise for those not at its center to think they are safe from its near and long-term consequences, while the world observes how the collective Arab mind deals with it. Therefore, we must elevate our discourse and discussions in the media and on social media above trivialities, sowing grudges, and getting caught up in small, fabricated storms instead of focusing on the big hurricane we are facing.
