تستأنف خدمات قطارات الركاب بين الصين وكوريا الشمالية هذا الأسبوع، بعد توقف استمر ست سنوات بسبب القيود الصارمة التي فرضتها جائحة كورونا على الحدود بين البلدين.

وكانت الرحلات بالقطار قد توقفت في عام 2020، عندما أغلقت كوريا الشمالية حدودها بشكل شبه كامل لمنع انتشار فايروس كورونا، في حين أعادت الصين فتح حدودها بالكامل لاحقًا، ومع ذلك، ظلت بيونغ يانغ أكثر حذرًا في إعادة فتح البلاد، رغم استئناف الرحلات الجوية وخدمات القطارات مع روسيا العام الماضي.

وبحسب تقارير إعلامية، أفاد وكلاء سفر في مكاتب بيع التذاكر الرسمية في بكين ومدينة داندونغ الحدودية الصينية، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، بأن المواطنين الصينيين الذين يعملون أو يدرسون في كوريا الشمالية أصبح بإمكانهم الآن شراء تذاكر القطار إلى الدولة المعزولة دبلوماسيًا، على أن تنطلق أول رحلة يوم الخميس.

كما يمكن للكوريين الشماليين المقيمين في الخارج لأغراض العمل أو الدراسة أو زيارة العائلة شراء التذاكر أيضًا، في حين لا يزال السياح غير مؤهلين للسفر عبر هذا الخط في الوقت الحالي.

وقال روان بيرد، مدير الجولات في شركة يونغ بايونير تورز المتخصصة في تنظيم الرحلات إلى كوريا الشمالية، إن استئناف خدمة القطارات الدولية يعد تطورًا إيجابيًا.

وأضاف لصحيفة «الغارديان» أن شركته، إلى جانب شركات أجنبية أخرى تنظم رحلات إلى كوريا الشمالية، ستكون قادرة على ترتيب التذاكر ابتداءً من يوم الخميس.

وأوضح بيرد أن الخط الجديد لن يكون مخصصًا للسياح في المرحلة الأولى، لكنه قد يوفر خيارًا إضافيًا للسفر عندما تعود السياحة إلى كوريا الشمالية مستقبلًا، ليشكل بديلاً عن السفر بالطائرة.

من جانبه، لم يؤكد المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية الصينية، قوه جياكون، هذه التقارير خلال مؤتمر صحفي عقد الثلاثاء.

في المقابل، ذكرت وزارة الوحدة في كوريا الجنوبية في بيان أنها على علم بخطط استئناف خدمة القطار الدولية بين بيونغ يانغ وبكين اعتبارًا من 12 مارس، مشيرة إلى أنها ستواصل متابعة التطورات ذات الصلة عن كثب.

وتُعد الصين تاريخيًا أكبر داعم لكوريا الشمالية وشريانًا اقتصاديًا مهمًا لاقتصادها المتعثر، إلا أن بيونغ يانغ عززت علاقاتها مع روسيا منذ اندلاع الحرب في أوكرانيا.

ورغم هذه الخطوة، لا تزال السلطات الكورية الشمالية ترسل إشارات متباينة بشأن إمكانية فتح البلاد بشكل أوسع.

فقد أعلنت شركة كوريو تورز، أمس (الإثنين)، أن كوريا الشمالية ألغت ماراثون بيونغ يانغ الدولي الذي كان مقررًا تنظيمه مطلع الشهر القادم، دون تقديم تفسير رسمي.

ووصفت الشركة القرار بأنه غير متوقع، مشيرة إلى أن المعلومات المتوفرة لديها تفيد بأن القرار اتخذ على مستوى أعلى من منظمي الحدث.

ويُعد ماراثون بيونغ يانغ أكبر حدث رياضي دولي في كوريا الشمالية، ويمنح الزوار فرصة نادرة للجري في شوارع العاصمة التي تخضع لرقابة مشددة.

Passenger train services between China and North Korea will resume this week, after a six-year halt due to the strict restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the borders between the two countries.

Train services were suspended in 2020 when North Korea closed its borders almost completely to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, while China later fully reopened its borders. However, Pyongyang remained more cautious about reopening the country, despite the resumption of flights and train services with Russia last year.

According to media reports, travel agents at official ticket offices in Beijing and the Chinese border city of Dandong reported today (Tuesday) that Chinese citizens who work or study in North Korea can now purchase train tickets to the diplomatically isolated country, with the first trip scheduled for Thursday.

North Koreans residing abroad for work, study, or family visits can also buy tickets, while tourists are still ineligible to travel via this route at the moment.

Rowan Beard, a tour manager at Young Pioneer Tours, which specializes in organizing trips to North Korea, stated that the resumption of international train services is a positive development.

He added to The Guardian that his company, along with other foreign companies organizing trips to North Korea, will be able to arrange tickets starting Thursday.

Beard explained that the new route will not be designated for tourists in the initial phase, but it could provide an additional travel option when tourism returns to North Korea in the future, serving as an alternative to air travel.

For his part, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian did not confirm these reports during a press conference held on Tuesday.

In contrast, South Korea’s Ministry of Unification stated in a statement that it is aware of plans to resume international train services between Pyongyang and Beijing starting March 12, noting that it will continue to closely monitor related developments.

Historically, China has been North Korea’s largest supporter and an important economic lifeline for its struggling economy, although Pyongyang has strengthened its ties with Russia since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

Despite this step, North Korean authorities continue to send mixed signals regarding the possibility of a broader reopening of the country.

Koryo Tours announced yesterday (Monday) that North Korea has canceled the Pyongyang International Marathon, which was scheduled to take place early next month, without providing an official explanation.

The company described the decision as unexpected, indicating that the information available to them suggests that the decision was made at a higher level than the event organizers.

The Pyongyang Marathon is the largest international sporting event in North Korea, offering visitors a rare opportunity to run through the heavily monitored streets of the capital.
