رغم وفاته في 15 من رمضان 1419هـ، إلا أن صوت محمد حسين عامر لا يزال مرتبطاً بالشهر الكريم في اليمن، الذي يصدح بقراءاته السبع في أرجاء العاصمة صنعاء وجميع الأرياف والمحافظات اليمنية إيذاناً بقرب دخول أذان المغرب للإفطار أو قرب الاعتصام في الفجر.

ويعتبر عامر من مجددي الإنشاد في اليمن، ومن أبرز المؤسسين لجمعية المنشدين اليمنيين؛ فصوته الرخيم والعذب جعل تلاوته للقرآن وكذلك التسبيح والدعاء والإنشاد، في ذاكرة كل اليمنيين بل جزءاً أصيلاً من حياتهم في الشهر الفضيل.

ولد محمد حسين عامر عام 1938 في قرية الظواهرة، بمنطقة حيد السواد، مديرية الحدا، في محافظة ذمار، ونشأ فيها، وأصيب بالعمى في عامه الأول، وفي الشهر السادس منه تحديداً، إلا أنه مكث في قريته تسع سنوات تمكن خلالها من حفظ كتاب الله على يد والده حسين عامر، ثم غادرها مع أخيه الأكبر أحمد حسين الذي كان كفيفاً أيضاً إلى صنعاء 1947، لاستكمال دراسته للقرآن الكريم، وتمكّن خلال أقل من سنة من إتمام حفظ كتاب الله، ثم درس علوم القرآن الكريم وعلم القراءات السبع وبعض المتون.

عمل عامر في تدريس القرآن الكريم، وأسس عدداً من مدارس التحفيظ في مسجد النهرين بمدينة صنعاء وغيرها من المساجد، ثم أسس مدرسة للقراءات السبع خصوصاً قراءة نافع، فضلاً عن إشرافه على حلقات تحفيظ القرآن الكريم بالجامع الكبير بصنعاء.

وكانت حياة عامر حافلة بالعطاء وخدمة العلم، وقد اشتهرت قراءاته من خلال إذاعة وتلفزيون صنعاء وعدد من الإذاعات اليمنية، وانتشرت حتى صار من أشهر المقرئين اليمنيين.

ومنذ بداية الستينيات كان عامر حاضراً في إذاعة صنعاء بالنقل المباشر لما قبل صلاة المغرب وكذلك قبل صلاة الفجر يومياً من الجامع الكبير بصنعاء كل شهر رمضان، لتردده كل المساجد عبر مآذنها.

ولم يرتبط صوت عامر برمضان وحده بل أيضاً بأعراس وأفراح اليمنيين، التي يحضرها بقوة من خلال أناشيده الدينية والتذكيرية التي شكلت رمزية خاصة لدى غالبية الأسر اليمنية.

Despite his passing on the 15th of Ramadan 1419 AH, the voice of Muhammad Hussein Amer remains associated with the holy month in Yemen, resonating with his recitations across the capital, Sana’a, and all the rural areas and provinces of Yemen, signaling the approach of the Maghrib call to prayer for iftar or the dawn prayer.

Amer is considered one of the renewers of chanting in Yemen and one of the prominent founders of the Yemeni Singers Association; his melodious and sweet voice has made his recitation of the Quran, as well as his glorifications, prayers, and chants, a memory for all Yemenis and an integral part of their lives during the holy month.

Muhammad Hussein Amer was born in 1938 in the village of Al-Dhahira, in the Hayd Al-Sawad area, Al-Hada District, in Dhamar Governorate, where he grew up. He became blind in his first year, specifically in the sixth month, but he remained in his village for nine years, during which he managed to memorize the Book of God under the guidance of his father, Hussein Amer. He then left with his older brother, Ahmed Hussein, who was also blind, to Sana’a in 1947 to continue his studies of the Quran. Within less than a year, he completed memorizing the Book of God and then studied the sciences of the Quran and the seven readings along with some texts.

Amer worked in teaching the Quran and established several memorization schools in the Al-Nahrain Mosque in Sana’a and other mosques. He also established a school for the seven readings, particularly the reading of Nafi, in addition to supervising Quran memorization circles at the Great Mosque in Sana’a.

Amer’s life was filled with giving and serving knowledge, and his recitations became famous through the Sana’a Radio and Television and several Yemeni radio stations, spreading to the point where he became one of the most famous Quran reciters in Yemen.

Since the early 1960s, Amer has been present on Sana’a Radio with live broadcasts before the Maghrib prayer as well as before the Fajr prayer daily from the Great Mosque in Sana’a every Ramadan, echoing through the minarets of all mosques.

Amer’s voice is not only associated with Ramadan but also with the weddings and celebrations of Yemenis, where he powerfully participates through his religious and commemorative chants that have formed a special symbolism for the majority of Yemeni families.
