أعلنت جامعة ولاية كارولاينا الجنوبية، تعليق الدراسة يوم (الجمعة)، عقب حادث إطلاق نار مروّع وقع مساء (الخميس)، في مجمع «هوجين سويتس» السكني الطلابي داخل الحرم الجامعي.

وأسفر الحادث الذي وقع داخل الجامعة التي تعد إحدى الجامعات التاريخية السوداء العريقة عن مقتل شخصين وإصابة شخص ثالث بجروح، وفق بيان رسمي صادر عن إدارة الجامعة.

وأدت الحادثة إلى فرض إغلاق أمني كامل على الحرم الجامعي بدءاً من مساء (الخميس)، واستمر حتى ساعات الصباح الباكر من الجمعة، مع مشاركة إدارة إنفاذ القانون في كارولاينا الجنوبية إلى جانب الشرطة المحلية في أورنجبورغ ومكتب الشريف للمقاطعة في التحقيقات وتأمين المنطقة المحيطة.

وقالت الجامعة في بيانها: «تم إلغاء الدراسة يوم الجمعة للسماح بتقييم الأمن الكامل ولتوفير خدمات الدعم النفسي والإرشاد للطلاب والعاملين»، مؤكدة توفير مستشارين نفسيين متاحين على الفور لأفراد المجتمع الجامعي المتأثرين بالحادث.

وتعد جامعة ولاية كارولاينا الجنوبية التي تأسست عام 1896، الجامعة العامة التاريخية السوداء الوحيدة في ولاية كارولاينا الجنوبية، وتقع في مدينة أورنجبورغ على بعد حوالى 70 كم جنوب شرق كولومبيا عاصمة الولاية، وتضم نحو 2500-3000 طالب، وتشتهر ببرامجها في العلوم الزراعية، التعليم، والأعمال.

وتعتبر الحادثة هي الثانية من نوعها خلال العام الدراسي 2025-2026؛ حيث شهد الحرم الجامعي في أكتوبر الماضي، إطلاق نارين منفصلين خلال احتفالات العودة للمنزل، أسفرا عن مقتل شخص وإصابة آخرين، مما أدى أيضاً إلى إغلاق أمني وإلغاء دراسة لأيام.

وتأتي الحادثة ضمن موجة متكررة من حوادث إطلاق النار في الحرم الجامعي الأمريكي، حيث سجلت الولايات المتحدة عشرات الحوادث المميتة في الجامعات خلال السنوات الأخيرة، مما يعيد النقاش حول قوانين السلاح، الأمن الجامعي، والصحة النفسية.

South Carolina State University announced the suspension of classes on (Friday) following a horrific shooting incident that occurred on (Thursday) evening at the “Hogin Suites” student housing complex on campus.

The incident, which took place at the university, one of the historic black colleges, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left a third person injured, according to an official statement from the university administration.

The incident led to a complete security lockdown on campus starting Thursday evening, which continued into the early hours of Friday morning, with the South Carolina law enforcement agency participating alongside local police in Orangeburg and the county sheriff’s office in the investigations and securing the surrounding area.

The university stated in its announcement: “Classes have been canceled on Friday to allow for a full security assessment and to provide psychological support and counseling services for students and staff,” emphasizing that mental health counselors are immediately available for members of the affected university community.

South Carolina State University, established in 1896, is the only public historically black university in South Carolina, located in Orangeburg about 70 km southeast of Columbia, the state capital, and has approximately 2,500-3,000 students. It is known for its programs in agricultural sciences, education, and business.

This incident marks the second of its kind during the 2025-2026 academic year; the campus experienced two separate shootings last October during homecoming celebrations, resulting in one death and several injuries, which also led to a security lockdown and class cancellations for several days.

The incident is part of a recurring wave of shootings on American college campuses, where the United States has recorded dozens of deadly incidents at universities in recent years, reigniting discussions about gun laws, campus security, and mental health.
