في قصة صادمة تسلط الضوء على مخاطر بعض تجارب «السياحة العلاجية»، تحولت رحلة شاب بريطاني بحثاً عن ابتسامة جديدة، إلى معاناة قاسية انتهت بفقدانه جميع أسنانه، ليجد نفسه في وضع صحي ونفسي أسوأ مما كان عليه قبل السفر.

بحسب صحيفة Mirror، يروي جون دينتون (34 عاماً) وهو أب لطفلين، تفاصيل رحلته التي بدأت بعد حادث دراجة نارية خطير في يناير 2020، اضطر خلاله إلى خلع أسنانه الأمامية للسماح للأطباء بإدخال أنبوب تنفس.

وخلال فترة تعافيه، خضع لتركيب دعامات معدنية في الفك، ما تسبب لاحقاً في صعوبات كبيرة في تنظيف أسنانه، لتبدأ حالتها في التدهور تدريجياً.

ومع مرور الوقت، تفاقمت معاناته، وأصبح يعاني من آلام مستمرة وصعوبة في تناول الطعام، ما اضطره إلى تقطيعه إلى أجزاء صغيرة. وعندما بحث عن العلاج داخل المملكة المتحدة، اصطدم بتكلفة باهظة بلغت نحو 30 ألف جنيه إسترليني، وهو مبلغ يفوق قدراته المالية.

وأمام هذا الواقع، قرر جون التوجه إلى تركيا في يناير الماضي، بعد أن ادخر 3500 جنيه إسترليني، أملاً في الحصول على علاج أقل تكلفة، مؤكداً أنه خضع هناك لعملية زراعة 14 دعامة سنية خلال جلسة استمرت ساعات، وبدت النتائج في البداية مُرضية، إذ استعاد ثقته بابتسامته.

وأشار إلى أن هذا التحسن لم يدم طويلاً، إذ سرعان ما بدأت حالته تتدهور، مع ظهور آلام حادة وصفها بأنها «لا تُحتمل»، إضافة إلى إصابته بعدوى أدت إلى سقوط بعض أسنانه، خصوصاً السفلية، فور عودته إلى بريطانيا.

ومع تصاعد الأزمة، عاد مجدداً إلى تركيا في مارس لإجراء فحص، إلا أنه فوجئ – وفق روايته – بأنه خضع لإزالة كاملة لجميع الزراعات أثناء وجوده تحت التخدير، بدعوى فشلها، بدلاً من إصلاحها كما كان يتوقع.

ويصف جون لحظة استيقاظه قائلاً إنه صُدم عندما اكتشف أنه فقد جميع أسنانه، مؤكداً أن حالته أصبحت أسوأ بكثير من السابق، حتى أنه لم يعد قادراً على تناول الأطعمة اللينة، ما أثر بشكل كبير على حياته اليومية.

وأشار إلى أن اختياره للعيادة جاء بعد مراجعة تقييمات إيجابية، إضافة إلى عدم تعرضه لضغوط للحجز، ما منحه شعوراً بالثقة. إلا أنه فوجئ بطلب دفع مبلغ إضافي عند الوصول، كما شعر بأن الإجراءات تمت بسرعة مفرطة، إذ أُجريت العملية خلال وقت قصير من وصوله.

ورغم إعجابه الأولي بالنتيجة، إلا أن الألم المستمر وسقوط الأسنان لاحقاً حوّلا التجربة إلى معاناة حقيقية، خصوصاً مع عدم قدرته حتى على تنظيف فمه بسبب شدة الألم.

According to the Mirror newspaper, John Denton (34 years old), a father of two, recounts the details of his journey that began after a serious motorcycle accident in January 2020, during which he had to have his front teeth removed to allow doctors to insert a breathing tube.

During his recovery period, he underwent the installation of metal braces in his jaw, which later caused significant difficulties in cleaning his teeth, leading to a gradual deterioration of their condition.

As time passed, his suffering intensified, and he began to experience constant pain and difficulty eating, forcing him to cut his food into small pieces. When he sought treatment within the United Kingdom, he was confronted with exorbitant costs amounting to around £30,000, an amount that exceeded his financial capabilities.

Faced with this reality, John decided to travel to Turkey last January after saving £3,500, hoping to receive treatment at a lower cost, confirming that he underwent a procedure to implant 14 dental braces during a session that lasted for hours, and the results initially seemed satisfactory, as he regained confidence in his smile.

He noted that this improvement did not last long, as his condition soon began to deteriorate, with sharp pains that he described as “unbearable,” in addition to suffering from an infection that led to the loss of some of his teeth, especially the lower ones, immediately upon his return to Britain.

As the crisis escalated, he returned to Turkey in March for an examination, but he was shocked – according to his account – to find that he had undergone a complete removal of all the implants while under anesthesia, under the pretext that they had failed, instead of having them repaired as he had expected.

John describes the moment he woke up, saying he was stunned to discover that he had lost all his teeth, confirming that his condition had become much worse than before, to the point where he could no longer eat soft foods, which significantly affected his daily life.

He pointed out that his choice of the clinic came after reviewing positive evaluations, in addition to not being pressured to book, which gave him a sense of confidence. However, he was surprised by a request for an additional payment upon arrival, and he felt that the procedures were carried out too quickly, as the operation was performed shortly after his arrival.

Despite his initial admiration for the result, the ongoing pain and subsequent tooth loss turned the experience into a real ordeal, especially since he could not even clean his mouth due to the severity of the pain.
