خالد بن محمد زيني، إعلامي وتراثي مكاوي، روحه تفيض تميزاً، وجوهره ينبض أريحية، وحضوره الوطني والاجتماعي يُخرج جمالاً.. موثِّق للتراث، فلُقِب بـ«حكواتي الحجاز».. لباسه التقليدي التراثي (الثوب، العِمة، الشال، البُقشة)؛ يحكي التراث وكأنه يمشي على أرض حياة تجمع الأصالة والمعاصرة.. وعند تاريخ الحارات القديمة والقيم الحجازية اليومية؛ يرويها بواقعية تثير لدى عاشقها توقاً إليها.

في حكاياته الحجازية القديمة عن الحارة وأهلها وعاداتها وتقاليدها، ومركاز العمدة والجمعات فيه، والعَسَّة وصافرته، ومسحراتي رمضان؛ يرويها على طريقة أهل زمان بعفوية وطرافة ولباقة ممتعة لا تُمل.. وعندما يفتح صندوق الذكريات والأزمنة القديمة وإيقاع الحياة اليومية فيها؛ يعيد لسامعها النماذج القديمة لقصص التعاون والتآزر والتكافل الاجتماعي.

في «حارة النقا» بأعظم مدن العالم (مكة المكرمة) ولد، وفي «حارة الشبيكة» نشأ وترعرع.. وعقب عودته من بعثة عسكرية خارجية، وحصوله على «دبلوم العلوم العسكرية» (تخصص شرطة) من مصر عام 1398 للهجرة؛ بدأ حياته الوظيفية في شرطة العاصمة المقدسة.

أما حين استهوته «الصحافة»، فتوجه إليها مباشرة دون تردد؛ مراسلاً ومندوباً صحفياً، ومحاضراً ومحاوراً.. وبين الصحافة التي عشقها، والتراث الذي تاق له؛ خصَّص جزءاً كبيراً من وقته لنشر التراث القديم بسرد التاريخ على طريقة الرواة القدامى، فجمع بين «الصحافة» محرراً و«التراث» راوياً.

رفض التوجه لتأليف الكتُب المطبوعة، لأنه يعتبر أن رواية الحكايات المنطوقة هي الأهم، خصوصاً -كما يقول- أنها تؤلف قلوب الأجيال صوب التراث.

نال الكثير من التكريمات والجوائز التقديرية، منها: «جائزة التقدير الاحترافية» من أكاديمية المعجلية العالمية، وملتقى الشارقة الدولي للراوي، لجهوده في إحياء التراث الشعبي.

Khalid bin Mohammed Zaini, a media figure and heritage enthusiast from Makkah, has a spirit that overflows with distinction, and his essence radiates generosity. His national and social presence brings forth beauty. He is a documenter of heritage and has been dubbed the “Storyteller of Hijaz.” His traditional attire (thobe, imamah, shawl, and buqsha) narrates heritage as if he walks on the ground of a life that combines authenticity and modernity. When it comes to the history of the old neighborhoods and daily Hijazi values, he recounts them with a realism that evokes a longing in those who cherish them.

In his old Hijazi tales about the neighborhood, its people, customs, and traditions, as well as the mayor’s gathering place and the community meetings there, the night watchman and his horn, and the Ramadan drummers; he narrates them in the style of the people of the past with spontaneity, humor, and delightful eloquence that never tires. When he opens the box of memories and the old times and the rhythm of daily life within them, he brings back to the listener the old examples of cooperation, solidarity, and social welfare.

He was born in “Al-Nuqaa Neighborhood” in one of the greatest cities in the world (Makkah), and he grew up in “Al-Shabeeka Neighborhood.” After returning from a military mission abroad and obtaining a “Diploma in Military Sciences” (Police specialization) from Egypt in 1398 AH, he began his career in the police of the Holy Capital.

When he became fascinated by “journalism,” he turned to it directly without hesitation; working as a correspondent, a newspaper representative, a lecturer, and an interviewer. Between the journalism he loved and the heritage he longed for, he dedicated a large part of his time to spreading ancient heritage by narrating history in the manner of the old storytellers, thus combining “journalism” as an editor and “heritage” as a narrator.

He refused to venture into writing printed books because he believes that the narration of spoken stories is the most important, especially—as he says—it unites the hearts of generations towards heritage.

He has received many honors and awards, including the “Professional Appreciation Award” from the Global Al-Mu’ajiliyah Academy and the Sharjah International Storyteller Forum, for his efforts in reviving popular heritage.
