زعم رئيس نادي برشلونة الإسباني لكرة القدم خوان لابورتا، أن قراره بالتخلي عن النجم الأرجنتيني ليونيل ميسي قبل خمس سنوات قد أثبت صحته من خلال نتائج ولايته الثانية.

وخاض لابورتا، الذي تم انتخابه أخيراً لولاية رابعة في رئاسة برشلونة، حملته الانتخابية عام 2021 على أساس ضمان استمرار ميسي، لكنه أبلغ أسطورة منتخب (راقصي التانغو) في أغسطس من ذلك العام أنه لا يملك عقداً معه.

وبرر لابورتا قراره بعدة طرق، وأخيراً، ادعى المدرب السابق لبرشلونة وزميل ميسي في الفريق تشافي هيرنانديز، أنه تعمد تخريب عودته بعد عامين.

وفي مقابلة مع صحيفة «إل باييس»، أوضح لابورتا أنه شعر بأنه تمت تبرئته، إذ قال «كان يتعين علي اتخاذ قرار، وأعتقد أنني اتخذت القرار الصائب، فالنتائج تتحدث عن نفسها»، طبقاً لوكالة الأنباء الألمانية.

وأضاف رئيس برشلونة: «تمكنّا من تحسين الوضع المالي للنادي، وبنينا فريقاً منافساً، وحان وقت لتغيير الأجيال. كان ليو يقترب من نهاية مسيرته، وكنا بحاجة لبناء فريق جديد. هل كنت أرغب في بناء فريق جديد بمساعدة ليو؟ نعم. لقد حاولنا، لكن ذلك لم يكن ممكناً».

وأعرب ميسي عن رغبته في العودة إلى قلعة (كامب نو) مجدداً في وقت ما، لكن يبدو من غير المرجح أن يفعل ذلك طالما أن لابورتا على رأس إدارة النادي الكتالوني.

وأكد لابورتا في نهاية حديثه: «ستكون العلاقة المستقبلية بين الطرفين رهناً بما يريده ليو وما يريده برشلونة، في وقت ما، ستتلاقى مصالحهما مجدداً. ميسي رمز لجيله؛ كوبالا، كرويف، وميسي. يستحق تمثالاً ومباراة تكريمية.. برشلونة هو بيته».

The president of the Spanish football club Barcelona, Joan Laporta, claimed that his decision to part ways with Argentine star Lionel Messi five years ago has been vindicated by the results of his second term.

Laporta, who was recently elected for a fourth term as president of Barcelona, based his 2021 election campaign on ensuring Messi’s continuation, but he informed the legend of the (Tango dancers) national team in August of that year that he did not have a contract with him.

Laporta justified his decision in several ways, and finally, the former Barcelona coach and Messi’s teammate, Xavi Hernandez, claimed that he intentionally sabotaged Messi’s return after two years.

In an interview with the newspaper “El País,” Laporta explained that he felt vindicated, saying, “I had to make a decision, and I believe I made the right one; the results speak for themselves,” according to the German news agency.

He added, “We managed to improve the club’s financial situation, and we built a competitive team, and it was time to change generations. Leo was approaching the end of his career, and we needed to build a new team. Did I want to build a new team with Leo’s help? Yes. We tried, but it was not possible.”

Messi expressed his desire to return to the (Camp Nou) fortress at some point, but it seems unlikely that he will do so as long as Laporta is at the helm of the Catalan club.

Laporta confirmed at the end of his remarks: “The future relationship between the two parties will depend on what Leo wants and what Barcelona wants; at some point, their interests will align again. Messi is a symbol of his generation; Kubala, Cruyff, and Messi. He deserves a statue and a tribute match… Barcelona is his home.”
