شهدت المطارات الأمريكية، ازدحامًا غير مسبوق وطوابير طويلة، في ظل تفاقم أزمة الإغلاق الحكومي الجزئي، التي أثرت بشكل مباشر على عمل إدارة أمن النقل الأمريكية.

وأعلنت الإدارة أن عدد موظفي الأمن الذين تقدموا باستقالاتهم ارتفع إلى أكثر من 480 موظفًا منذ بدء الإغلاق في منتصف فبراير، في وقت يُجبر فيه نحو 50 ألف عنصر على العمل دون تلقي رواتبهم.

وفي إفادة أمام لجنة بمجلس النواب الأمريكي، أكدت المسؤولة البارزة في إدارة أمن النقل، ها ماكنيل، أن الأزمة الحالية تسببت في ضغوط هائلة على العاملين، وأدت إلى تسجيل أطول طوابير انتظار في تاريخ الوكالة، كما حذّرت من احتمال إغلاق بعض المطارات الصغيرة إذا استمرت أزمة نقص الموظفين.

من جانبه، صرّح الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بإمكانية نشر قوات الحرس الوطني في المطارات لتعزيز الإجراءات الأمنية ومواجهة النقص في الكوادر.

ولا يزال الخلاف مستمرًا في الكونغرس، حيث يتجادل الجمهوريون والديمقراطيون حول مشروع قانون يهدف إلى استئناف تمويل إدارة أمن النقل ووكالات أخرى تابعة لوزارة الأمن الداخلي.

وأشارت ماكنيل إلى أن أكثر من 1110 موظفين غادروا وظائفهم خلال إغلاق حكومي سابق في عام 2025، محذّرة من تكرار السيناريو ذاته.

وتواجه المطارات حاليًا ضغطًا إضافيًا مع زيادة حركة السفر خلال عطلة الربيع، حيث ارتفع عدد المسافرين بنسبة 5% مقارنة بالعام الماضي، كما تجاوزت نسبة الغياب بين الموظفين 10% في الأيام الأخيرة، ما أدى إلى انتظار المسافرين لأكثر من أربع ساعات في بعض نقاط التفتيش.

وكشفت ماكنيل عن أوضاع معيشية صعبة يواجهها الموظفون، حيث يضطر بعضهم للنوم في سياراتهم لتوفير نفقات الوقود، وبيع الدم أو البلازما، والعمل في وظائف إضافية، رغم مطالبتهم بالحفاظ على أعلى مستويات الأداء أثناء تأدية مهامهم.

وأعربت عن قلقها من أن استمرار الاستقالات قد يعيق قدرة الوكالة على التعامل مع الزيادة الكبيرة المتوقعة في حركة السفر خلال بطولة كأس العالم القادمة.

سياسيًا، يواصل الديمقراطيون تعطيل تمويل وزارة الأمن الداخلي، مطالبين بتعديل سياسات الهجرة، عقب حادثة إطلاق نار في مينيابوليس أسفرت عن مقتل مواطنين أمريكيين، وفي المقابل، يرفض الجمهوريون تمرير تمويل منفصل لإدارة أمن النقل دون التوصل إلى اتفاق شامل بشأن إصلاح سياسات الهجرة.

وفي محاولة لتخفيف الأزمة، بدأ مئات من عناصر الهجرة والتحقيقات الأمنية الانتشار في 14 مطارًا أمريكيًا لدعم عمليات التفتيش، خصوصا في المطارات التي شهدت أوقات انتظار تجاوزت ثلاث إلى أربع ساعات.

وأفادت وزارة الأمن الداخلي بأن نسبة الغياب على مستوى البلاد بلغت 11.1%، أي ما يعادل 3,160 موظفًا، بينما تجاوزت النسبة 30% في مطارات رئيسية مثل نيويورك وهيوستن وأتلانتا ونيو أورلينز.

ورغم الإغلاق الحكومي، لا يزال عناصر إنفاذ القانون في الوزارة، بمن فيهم موظفو الهجرة، يتقاضون رواتبهم، في حين تستمر معاناة موظفي أمن المطارات في ظل الأزمة المتفاقمة.

American airports have witnessed unprecedented congestion and long lines amid the worsening partial government shutdown crisis, which has directly affected the operations of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The agency announced that the number of security personnel who have resigned has risen to more than 480 since the shutdown began in mid-February, at a time when about 50,000 employees are forced to work without receiving their salaries.

In a statement before a committee in the U.S. House of Representatives, TSA’s senior official, Ha McNeil, confirmed that the current crisis has caused immense pressure on workers and led to the longest wait times in the agency’s history. She also warned of the possibility of some smaller airports closing if the staffing shortage crisis continues.

For his part, President Donald Trump stated the possibility of deploying National Guard troops at airports to enhance security measures and address the staffing shortage.

The dispute continues in Congress, where Republicans and Democrats are arguing over a bill aimed at resuming funding for the TSA and other agencies under the Department of Homeland Security.

McNeil pointed out that more than 1,110 employees left their jobs during a previous government shutdown in 2025, warning of the potential for the same scenario to repeat itself.

Airports are currently facing additional pressure with increased travel during the spring break, as the number of travelers has risen by 5% compared to last year. Additionally, the absenteeism rate among employees has exceeded 10% in recent days, leading to travelers waiting more than four hours at some checkpoints.

McNeil revealed difficult living conditions faced by employees, as some are forced to sleep in their cars to save on fuel costs, sell blood or plasma, and take on extra jobs, despite being required to maintain the highest levels of performance while performing their duties.

She expressed concern that the continued resignations could hinder the agency’s ability to handle the expected significant increase in travel during the upcoming World Cup.

Politically, Democrats continue to stall funding for the Department of Homeland Security, demanding changes to immigration policies following a shooting incident in Minneapolis that resulted in the deaths of American citizens. In contrast, Republicans refuse to pass separate funding for the TSA without reaching a comprehensive agreement on immigration policy reform.

In an effort to alleviate the crisis, hundreds of immigration and security investigation personnel have begun to deploy in 14 American airports to support inspection operations, especially in airports that have experienced wait times exceeding three to four hours.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that the national absenteeism rate reached 11.1%, equivalent to 3,160 employees, while the rate exceeded 30% in major airports such as New York, Houston, Atlanta, and New Orleans.

Despite the government shutdown, law enforcement personnel in the department, including immigration employees, are still receiving their salaries, while airport security staff continue to suffer amid the escalating crisis.
