كشفت شبكة CBS NEWS أن إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب تُجري استعدادات مكثفة لعملية برية محتملة في إيران. ونقلت عن مصادر قولها: إن مسؤولين في وزارة الدفاع (البنتاغون) أعدوا خططاً تفصيلية لسيناريو نشر قوات برية.

قادة عسكريون يدعمون الخيار

ولفتت المصادر إلى تقديم قادة عسكريين طلبات محددة لدعم هذا الخيار، في وقت يدرس فيه الرئيس الأمريكي خطواته القادمة ضمن الصراع الذي تقوده الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل ضد إيران.

وحسب مصادر، طلبت عدم الكشف عن هويتها، فإن الرئيس ترمب يدرس ما إذا كان سينشر قوات برية في المنطقة، فيما لا يزال من غير الواضح في أي ظروف قد يوافق على استخدام هذه القوات على الأرض.

وقال ترمب للصحفيين في المكتب البيضاوي رداً على سؤال بشأن إرسال قوات برية إلى إيران أمس (الخميس): «لا، لن أرسل قوات إلى أي مكان»، لكنه استدرك: «وإذا كنت سأفعل، فلن أخبركم بالتأكيد».

وأضافت المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض كارولين ليفيت في بيان: «من مهام البنتاغون إجراء الاستعدادات لتوفير أقصى قدر من الخيارات للقائد الأعلى، وهذا لا يعني أن الرئيس اتخذ قراراً، وكما قال في المكتب البيضاوي، فإنه لا يخطط لإرسال قوات برية إلى أي مكان في الوقت الحالي».

دراسة السيطرة على خارك

وذكرت 4 مصادر لـ«أكسيوس» أن إدارة الرئيس ترمب تدرس خططاً لاحتلال أو فرض حصار على جزيرة خارك الإيرانية، بهدف الضغط على طهران، لإعادة فتح مضيق هرمز، وسط تعزيزات أمريكية كبيرة إلى المنطقة تتضمن 3 وحدات من مشاة البحرية الأمريكية، التي ستكون ضرورية لخطوة كهذه.

وحسب المصادر فإن خيار احتلال الجزيرة بقوات برية يُبحث بجدية، وإن هناك خياراً آخر يتمثل في فرض حصار بحري لمنع الناقلات من الوصول إلى الجزيرة، إلا أنه لم يتم اتخاذ أي قرار نهائي بعد.

ويرى «أكسيوس» أن ترمب لا يستطيع إنهاء الحرب مع إيران وفق شروطه، ما لم يكسر قبضة طهران على حركة الشحن عبر المضيق، لكن تنفيذ عملية للسيطرة على جزيرة خارك، التي تقع على بُعد نحو 15 ميلاً من الساحل الإيراني، وتعالج نحو 90% من صادرات النفط الخام الإيرانية، قد يضع القوات الأمريكية في مرمى النيران بشكل مباشر.

ورجحت المصادر أن تُنفذ هذه العملية بعد أن يضعف الجيش الأمريكي القدرات العسكرية الإيرانية حول مضيق هرمز بشكل أكبر.

وأفصح مصدر مطلع أن الأمر يحتاج نحو شهر لإضعاف الإيرانيين أكثر عبر الضربات، ثم السيطرة على الجزيرة، وبعدها استخدام ذلك كورقة ضغط في المفاوضات.

نشر المزيد من جنود المشاة

ونقلت «رويترز» اليوم (الجمعة) عن 3 مسؤولين أمريكيين قولهم إن الجيش الأمريكي بدأ في نشر سفينة حربية برمائية ضخمة تحمل آلافاً من جنود مشاة البحرية والبحارة الإضافيين في الشرق الأوسط، تزامناً مع إشادة المرشد الإيراني الجديد مجتبى خامنئي في رسالته الثانية «بوحدة الإيرانيين، ومقاومتهم».

وأكدت أن واشنطن تدرس نشر قوات إضافية للقيام بمهام منها ⁠عمليات إنزال. وتسعى الولايات المتحدة جاهدة لمعاودة فتح مضيق هرمز، وهو ‌ممر مائي في الخليج أغلقته إيران منذ الهجوم الأمريكي الإسرائيلي عليها قبل نحو 3 أسابيع.

Military leaders support the option

Sources pointed out that military leaders have made specific requests to support this option, while the U.S. president is considering his next steps in the conflict led by the United States and Israel against Iran.

According to sources, who requested anonymity, President Trump is weighing whether to deploy ground forces in the region, although it remains unclear under what circumstances he would agree to use these forces on the ground.

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office in response to a question about sending ground troops to Iran yesterday (Thursday): “No, I will not send troops anywhere,” but he added: “And if I were to do so, I certainly wouldn’t tell you.”

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt added in a statement: “It is the Pentagon’s job to prepare to provide the maximum options for the Commander-in-Chief, and this does not mean that the president has made a decision. As he said in the Oval Office, he does not plan to send ground troops anywhere at this time.”

Study of controlling Khark

Four sources told Axios that the Trump administration is considering plans to occupy or impose a blockade on the Iranian island of Khark, with the aim of pressuring Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, amid significant U.S. reinforcements to the region that include three units of U.S. Marines, which would be necessary for such a step.

According to the sources, the option of occupying the island with ground forces is being seriously considered, and there is another option involving a naval blockade to prevent tankers from reaching the island, but no final decision has been made yet.

Axios believes that Trump cannot end the war with Iran on his terms unless he breaks Tehran’s grip on shipping through the strait, but executing an operation to take control of Khark Island, which is located about 15 miles from the Iranian coast and handles about 90% of Iranian crude oil exports, could put U.S. forces directly in the line of fire.

Sources suggested that this operation would be carried out after the U.S. military further weakens Iranian military capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz.

An informed source revealed that it would take about a month to weaken the Iranians further through strikes, then take control of the island, and afterward use that as leverage in negotiations.

Deployment of more infantry soldiers

Reuters reported today (Friday) that three U.S. officials said the U.S. military has begun deploying a massive amphibious warship carrying thousands of additional Marines and sailors to the Middle East, coinciding with the new Iranian leader Mojtaba Khamenei praising in his second message the “unity of Iranians and their resistance.”

It confirmed that Washington is considering deploying additional forces for missions including landing operations. The United States is striving to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway in the Gulf that Iran has closed since the U.S.-Israeli attack on it about three weeks ago.
