أكد البيت الأبيض أنّ الولايات المتحدة يمكنها السيطرة في أي وقت على جزيرة خارك الإيرانية إذا أرادت ذلك.

وكان تقرير إعلامي كشف أنّ إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب تدرس خططاً لاحتلال أو حصار هذه المنطقة التي تمر عبرها معظم صادرات النفط الإيراني الخام.

ورداً على سؤال بشأن التقرير الذي نشره موقع «أكسيوس»، قالت نائبة المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض آنا كيلي، في بيان لوكالة فرانس برس، إنّ جيش الولايات المتحدة قادر على السيطرة على جزيرة خارك «في أي وقت إذا أعطى الرئيس الأمر» لذلك.

وأفصحت صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال»، نقلاً عن مسؤولين أمريكيين، أن الولايات المتحدة كثّفت عملياتها العسكرية فوق مضيق هرمز، كما أنها قد ترسل سفناً حربية لتأمين الملاحة.

وذكرت واشنطن أنها تستخدم طائرات هجومية ومروحيات أباتشي لاستهداف الزوارق الإيرانية ضمن خطة وزارة الدفاع الأمريكية (البنتاغون) لتأمين الملاحة في الممرّ، مشيرة إلى أن هذه العمليات قد تستمر لأسابيع، تمهيداً لإعادة فتح المضيق أمام حركة الشحن.

من جهته، أعلن الجيش الأمريكي أنه استهدف مصنع خارك الإيراني لإنتاج الصواريخ أرض – أرض.

وأوضح الجيش الأمريكي أن المصنع كان يُستخدم لتجميع صواريخ باليستية شكّلت تهديداً للأمريكيين ولدول المنطقة وحركة الشحن التجاري.

وأضافت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية أن صوراً التُقطت في الأول من مارس أظهرت الموقع قبل الضربات، فيما بيّنت صور بتاريخ الحادي عشر من الشهر ذاته حجم الأضرار التي لحقت بالمنشأة بعد استهدافها بذخائر دقيقة.

وتأثرت بشدة حركة الملاحة عبر مضيق هرمز الذي يمر عبره خُمس النفط الخام والغاز الطبيعي المسال في العالم، ما أثار مخاوف من نقص الإمدادات ورفع الأسعار إلى مستويات لم تشهدها منذ عامين تقريباً.

وتُعدّ أسعار الوقود المرتفعة مصدر قلق بالغ للقادة السياسيين الأمريكيين، إذ يحتمل أن تؤجّج التضخم الذي يثقل كاهل الكثير من الأسر ذات الدخل المحدود.

والثلاثاء، أمر ترمب مؤسسة تمويل التنمية الأمريكية بتوفير تأمين ضد المخاطر السياسية لمجمل التجارة البحرية عبر الخليج. وقال إن البحرية الأمريكية ستبدأ «في حال الضرورة» مرافقة ناقلات النفط عبر مضيق هرمز «في أقرب وقت ممكن».

A media report revealed that President Donald Trump’s administration is considering plans to occupy or blockade this area through which most of Iran’s crude oil exports pass.

In response to a question about the report published by Axios, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly stated in a statement to Agence France-Presse that the U.S. military is capable of taking control of Khark Island “at any time if the president gives the order” to do so.

The Wall Street Journal reported, citing U.S. officials, that the United States has intensified its military operations over the Strait of Hormuz and may send warships to secure navigation.

Washington stated that it is using attack aircraft and Apache helicopters to target Iranian boats as part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s (Pentagon) plan to secure navigation in the corridor, noting that these operations may continue for weeks in preparation for reopening the strait to shipping traffic.

For its part, the U.S. military announced that it targeted the Iranian Khark factory for producing surface-to-surface missiles.

The U.S. military clarified that the factory was being used to assemble ballistic missiles that posed a threat to Americans, regional countries, and commercial shipping.

The U.S. Central Command added that images taken on March 1 showed the site before the strikes, while images dated March 11 showed the extent of the damage inflicted on the facility after being targeted with precision munitions.

Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which carries one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas, has been severely affected, raising concerns about supply shortages and pushing prices to levels not seen in nearly two years.

High fuel prices are a significant concern for American political leaders, as they could exacerbate inflation that burdens many low-income families.

On Tuesday, Trump ordered the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to provide insurance against political risks for all maritime trade across the Gulf. He stated that the U.S. Navy would begin “if necessary” to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as possible.”
