تحوّلت غرفة علاج داخل مستشفى أطفال في ولاية أوهايو الأمريكية إلى مسرح لواقعة صادمة، بعدما رصدت كاميرات المراقبة تصرفًا خطيرًا من أم تجاه طفلها المنوّم لتلقي العلاج.

وألقت السلطات القبض على تيفاني ليسوير (35 عامًا)، بعد الاشتباه في قيامها بحقن مادة يُعتقد أنها براز في منفذ المحلول الوريدي لطفلها داخل مستشفى «نيشن وايد» للأطفال في كولومبوس.

وبحسب ما أوردته تقارير أمريكية، لاحظ موظفو المستشفى في السادس من فبراير سلوكًا مريبًا عبر كاميرات المراقبة، إذ ظهرت الأم وهي تضع مادة غير معروفة في حقنة قبل أن توصلها بأنبوب التغذية الوريدي الخاص بالطفل. وتمت مراقبتها لاحقًا خلال زيارات أخرى.

وفي الثامن من فبراير، تكرر المشهد. دخلت الأم إلى الحمام وهي تحمل كوبًا، قبل أن تعود وتفرغ محتواه في خط الوريد، وفق ما وثقته الكاميرات.

وأبلغت إدارة المستشفى الجهات المختصة فورًا، ليتم توقيف الأم وإيداعها في مركز جيمس أ. كارنز الإصلاحي، مع توجيه تهمة تعريض طفل للخطر عبر التعذيب وسوء المعاملة الجسيمة، وفق السجلات القضائية.

وفي تعليق على الحادثة، أكدت الرئيسة التنفيذية لمركز منع إساءة معاملة الأسرة والطفل كريستي جينكينز أن مثل هذه القضايا تسلط الضوء على صعوبة كشف الانتهاكات حين يكون الطفل غير مدرك لما يحدث له.

وأصدرت المحكمة أمرًا يمنع المتهمة من التواصل مع طفلها أو أي قاصرين دون إشراف مباشر، وحددت جلسة لاحقة لاستكمال النظر في القضية. بينما أثارت القضية موجة صدمة واسعة في الأوساط المحلية، خصوصًا أنها وقعت داخل منشأة طبية يُفترض أنها مكان آمن للأطفال الأكثر هشاشة.

Authorities arrested Tiffany Lisweir (35) after suspecting her of injecting a substance believed to be feces into her child’s intravenous line at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

According to American reports, hospital staff noticed suspicious behavior on February 6 through surveillance cameras, as the mother was seen placing an unknown substance into a syringe before connecting it to the child’s IV feeding tube. She was later monitored during subsequent visits.

On February 8, the scene repeated itself. The mother entered the bathroom holding a cup, before returning and emptying its contents into the IV line, as documented by the cameras.

The hospital administration immediately reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the mother’s arrest and her placement in the James A. Karnes Juvenile Correctional Facility, with charges of endangering a child through torture and severe abuse, according to court records.

In a comment on the incident, Kristi Jenkins, the executive director of the Child and Family Abuse Prevention Center, stated that such cases highlight the difficulty of detecting abuse when the child is unaware of what is happening to them.

The court issued an order preventing the accused from communicating with her child or any minors without direct supervision, and set a later session to continue reviewing the case. Meanwhile, the case has sparked widespread shock in local circles, especially since it occurred within a medical facility that is supposed to be a safe place for the most vulnerable children.
