لم تكن قضية جيفري إبستين واقعة جنائية معزولة بين شطآن جزيرة باذخة في الكاريبي، بل كانت كاشفاً أخلاقياً فادحاً لعالمٍ يختل فيه الميزان حين تُقدَّم الثروة على العدالة، ويغدو الصمت تواطؤاً، وتُختبر إنسانية النخب عند أول تماس مع النفوذ والشهوة والسلطة.

في فضاء يُفترض أن القانون فيه خط أحمر لا يُمس، كشفت ملفات جيفري إبستين عن الوجه الحقيقي لقوة المال حين تتحرر من كل الضوابط الأخلاقية والقانونية، وتعمل في العتمة، حيث تُشترى الذمم، ويُعاد تعريف الصواب والخطأ وفق منطق المنفعة والمتعة لا منطق القيم والضمائر، فلم تكن الحكاية شبكة استغلال جنسي فحسب، بل امتحاناً قاسياً لصدق المجتمعات الحديثة في حماية الإنسان عندما تتشابك الثروة الفاحشة مع النفوذ السياسي والاجتماعي.

الأشد خطورة في ملف إبستين ليس فقط الفعل الإجرامي ذاته، ولكنها البنية التي سمحت له أن يستمر أعواماً دون مساءلة، وهنا تتجلى المأساة الأخلاقية كاملة: حين يمنح المال حصانة غير معلنة، وحين تتحوّل العدالة من قيمة مطلقة إلى قرار انتقائي؛ في تلك المنطقة الرمادية تتراجع المبادئ، ويُعاد تشكيل الضمير ليبرر الصمت، أو التواطؤ، أو حتى الادعاء الأخلاقي الزائف من داخل الدائرة نفسها مهما بلغت مكانتها ومهما رفعت من شعارات إنسانية وأخلاقية إلخ!

لقد عرّت قضية إبستين البشعة هشاشة الخطاب الأخلاقي لدى قطاعات كبيرة من النخب، أولئك الذين يتقنون رفع شعارات العدالة وحقوق الإنسان في العلن، بينما يساومون عليها ويتلذذون بهتكها في الخفاء، وعندما تُفتح أبواب الانفلات بالنفوذ والمال، تنكشف أسوأ غرائز النفس البشرية: نشوة السيطرة، شهوة الامتياز، وتحويل الجريمة إلى حق مكتسب. عند هذه النقطة، لا يعود الانحراف سلوكاً فردياً، بل يتحوّل إلى ثقافة محمية بشبكات المصالح والنفوذ.

إن البعد القيمي في قضية إبستين يتجاوز أسماء الضحايا والمتورطين، ليطرح سؤالاً وجودياً حاداً.. ما جدوى القانون إذا كان يُعلق عند بوابة السلطة؟ وما معنى الأخلاق إذا لم تكن التزاماً، بل قناعاً يُستدعى عند الحاجة ويُخلع عند أول اختبار حقيقي؟ الأخلاق هنا ليست خطاباً تجميلياً، بل ممارسة تبدأ برفض التواطؤ، ولا تكتمل إلا بمحاسبة الأقوياء قبل الضعفاء، وعلى سبيل المثال لا الحصر؛ لطالما تصدّرت شعارات نخبوية غربية مناهضة لزواج القاصرات -وكلنا ضده، وها هي تنهار أمام ملفات إبستين التي تكشف استغلالاً جسدياً فاضحاً للقاصرات وصغيرات السن يفوق كل تصور، هذا التناقض الصارخ بين الخطاب المزعوم والواقع المظلم يفضح ازدواجية القيم التي تتغنى بها النخب الغربية وتتسيّد تجريم من يمارسها!

لقد أكدت هذه القضية أن الحضارة، مهما بلغت من التقدّم، تبقى هشّة إذا لم تُحمَ القيم بعدالة صارمة لا تعرف الاستثناء، فحين يُترك الإنسان لغرائزه، ويُترك المال بلا قانون، تكون النتيجة عالماً بشعاً وشديد القسوة وفقيراً للإنسانية مهما حاول أن يتزيّن بخطاب التقدّم والتحضّر، تلك الجزيرة الباذخة لم تكن سوى مسرح معتم لانفلات العقل البشري حين يختبئ بعيداً عن أعين العالم، فتولد أبشع الجرائم تحت غطاء الثراء والنفوذ، وعندما تغيب العدالة، لا يبقى من الحضارة سوى قشرة زائفة تخفي وحشاً ينتظر الظل ليكيّفه لغرائزه وملذاته!

The most dangerous aspect of the Epstein case is not just the criminal act itself, but the structure that allowed him to continue for years without accountability. Herein lies the complete moral tragedy: when money grants unspoken immunity, and when justice shifts from an absolute value to a selective decision; in that gray area, principles recede, and conscience is reshaped to justify silence, complicity, or even false moral posturing from within the very circle itself, regardless of its status or the lofty humanitarian and ethical slogans it raises!

The heinous Epstein case has exposed the fragility of the moral discourse among large sectors of the elite, those who excel at raising slogans of justice and human rights in public while bargaining them away and reveling in their violation in private. When the doors to excess through influence and money are opened, the worst instincts of human nature are revealed: the thrill of control, the lust for privilege, and the transformation of crime into an acquired right. At this point, deviance is no longer an individual behavior but becomes a culture protected by networks of interests and influence.

The value dimension of the Epstein case transcends the names of the victims and the perpetrators, raising a sharp existential question: What is the point of the law if it is suspended at the gates of power? What does morality mean if it is not a commitment but a mask that is donned when needed and discarded at the first real test? Morality here is not a decorative discourse but a practice that begins with rejecting complicity and is only completed by holding the powerful accountable before the weak. For example, elite Western slogans opposing child marriage have long dominated – and we are all against it – yet they crumble in the face of Epstein’s files that reveal shocking physical exploitation of minors that exceeds all imagination. This glaring contradiction between the alleged discourse and the dark reality exposes the duplicity of values that the Western elite glorify while leading the charge against those who practice them!

This case has confirmed that civilization, no matter how advanced, remains fragile if values are not upheld by a strict justice that knows no exceptions. When humans are left to their instincts and money is left without law, the result is a hideous, harsh world that is impoverished of humanity, no matter how much it tries to adorn itself with the rhetoric of progress and civilization. That lavish island was nothing but a dark stage for the unbridled human mind when it hides away from the eyes of the world, giving birth to the most heinous crimes under the cover of wealth and influence. When justice is absent, what remains of civilization is merely a false veneer that conceals a monster waiting for the shadows to shape it to its instincts and pleasures!
