لقي جنديان مصرعهما وأُصيب اثنان آخران من قوات حفظ السلام التابعين لقوات الأمم المتحدة في لبنان (اليونيفيل) اليوم (الإثنين) في جنوب لبنان، إثر انفجار مجهول المصدر دمر مركبتهم قرب بلدة بني حيان.

وقال قوات حفظ السلام (اليونيفيل) في بيان على حسابها في «إكس»: «لقي اثنان من جنود حفظ السلام التابعين لليونيفيل مصرعهما اليوم في جنوب لبنان، إثر انفجار مجهول المصدر دمر مركبتهم قرب بني حيان، وأصيب جنديان آخران أحدهما بجروح خطيرة»، مضيفة: «هذه هي الحادثة المميتة الثانية خلال الأربع والعشرين ساعة الماضية».

وأعلنت قوات اليونيفيل بدء تحقيق في الحادثة لمعرفة ما الذي حدث.

وأكدت قوات حفظ السلام مجدداً أنه لا ينبغي لأحد أن يموت في سبيل قضية السلام، مشددة على الحاجة الملحة لجميع الجهات الفاعلة للوفاء بالتزاماتها بموجب القانون الدولي وضمان سلامة وأمن موظفي الأمم المتحدة وممتلكاتها في جميع الأوقات، بما في ذلك تجنب أي أعمال قد تعرض قوات حفظ السلام للخطر.

وأشارت إلى أن الهجمات المتعمدة على قوات حفظ السلام تشكل انتهاكات خطيرة للقانون الإنساني الدولي وقرار مجلس الأمن رقم 1701، وقد تشكل جرائم حرب، مبينة أن الخسائر البشرية لهذا الصراع باهظة للغاية، مشددة بالقول: «كما قلنا سابقاً، يجب أن يتوقف العنف».

Two soldiers lost their lives and two others were injured from the United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) today (Monday) in southern Lebanon, following an explosion of unknown origin that destroyed their vehicle near the town of Bani Hayyan.

UNIFIL peacekeeping forces stated in a post on their account on “X”: “Two UNIFIL peacekeepers were killed today in southern Lebanon, following an explosion of unknown origin that destroyed their vehicle near Bani Hayyan, and two other soldiers were injured, one of them seriously,” adding: “This is the second fatal incident in the past twenty-four hours.”

UNIFIL announced the initiation of an investigation into the incident to determine what happened.

Peacekeeping forces reiterated that no one should die for the cause of peace, emphasizing the urgent need for all actors to fulfill their obligations under international law and ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property at all times, including avoiding any actions that may endanger peacekeeping forces.

They pointed out that deliberate attacks on peacekeeping forces constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and Security Council Resolution 1701, and may constitute war crimes, noting that the human toll of this conflict is extremely high, stressing: “As we said before, the violence must stop.”
